POCO M2 Pro First Sale in India Today at 12 Noon Via Flipkart: Three Reasons Why You Should Consider Buying It

July 2020 saw the launch of a new handset called the POCO M2 Pro in India. The third smartphone to come from Xiaomi’s POCO sub-brand, the M2 Pro, which was launched on July 7, seems to be the company’s attempt to fill the existing void between the company’s existing Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Note 9 Pro Max. The new device shares a lot of characteristics and features of the Redmi Note 9 Pro twins and does make up for an interesting proposition in case you happen to be looking for a new sub Rs 20k smartphone. Even though the POCO M2 Pro was ‘launched’ last week, in typical Xiaomi/POCO fashion, the device – latest for now – will be sold via weekly sales. The phone will be exclusively available on Flipkart, and the very first sale of the device is scheduled for today – July 14, 2020, at 12 noon.

While you might have extensively read about the POCO M2 Pro already, here are three reasons why POCO M2 Pro should make for a right choice if you are phone-hunting in July 2020.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor

While not an entirely new chipset, the tried and tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset has a proven track record of being an efficient and powerful SoC having. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max models also come powered by the same chipset. We can expect the POCO M2, therefore, to boast of similar performance. The SD720G is based on an 8nm manufacturing process and houses 2x Gold cores clocked at 2.3GHz along with 6x Silver 1.8GHz cores. For graphics, there is the Adreno 618 GPU that has been cooked at 750MHz. The POCO M2 Pro comes in three RAM/Storage options:

  • POCO M2 Pro 4+64GB – Rs 13,999
  • POCO M2 Pro 6+64GB – Rs 14,999
  • POCO M2 Pro 8+128GB – Rs 16,999

5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging

While the battery capacity of the POCO M2 Pro is near identical to that of the Redmi Note  9 Pro (5000mAh), the key difference between the two phones is that the M2 Pro features support for 33W fast charging. This makes it as fast as the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max as far as charging speeds are concerned. This also makes it quite a bit faster to charge compared to the Note 9 Pro that only supports 18W fast charging. Xiaomi claims that the POCO M2 Pro can charge from 0 to 50 percent in less than 30 minutes.

Quad Camera setup

The camera setup on the POCO M2 Pro – while near identical with both its cousins – has its share of differences as well. For example, the design of the camera array on the M2 Pro is different from the one we are used to on the Redmi Note 9 Pro. There are differences in the sensors as well. Unlike the 64MP sensor you saw on the Note 9 Pro Max, the POCO M2 Pro gets a 48MP primary camera. The phone also gets an 8MP 8 MP, f/2.2, 119-degree ultrawide camera for dramatic shots. The phone also gets a 5MP f/2.4 camera with support for AF, and lastly, we have a 2MP depth sensor. At the front, the phone gets a 16MP camera that is more than capable of capturing excellent selfies and video calling.

That being said, there are a few glaring omissions – especially when it comes to the display refresh rate. The POCO M2 Pro uses a standard 60Hz panel at a time when the competing Realme 6 gets a 90Hz LCD display. But overall, the POCO M2 Pro is definitely a good choice in case you can live with these minor issues.
