Vivo-owned iQOO has announced the launch of its new budget smartphone – the iQOO U1 for the Chinese market. This is the first U-Series iQOO handset to be officially announced and follows the announcement of the company’s Z series phones earlier this year. With its 6.53-inch display and the Snapdragon 7 series processor, the iQOO U1’s budget intentions are pretty clear. In China, the pricing of the device starts at around CNY 1100, which translates to around Rs 12,000. It remains unclear if iQOO has plans to bring this device to India. As you might be already aware, iQOO only sells one handset – the iQOO 3 – here in India as of today.
The iQOO U1 comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset. This mid-range SoC is relatively new, having been announced earlier this year. This 64-bit SoC is based on an 8nm manufacturing process and features two Kryo 465 Gold performance cores and six Kryo 465 Silver high-efficiency cores. For graphics, the phone uses the Adreno 618 GPU. The iQOO U1 comes in three versions starting with a base 6GB+128GB variant, a mid-tier 6GB+128GB variant, and the top end 8GB+128GB option. The display used on the phone is an IPS LCD panel that measures 6.53-inches across in the 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. This panel supports 16.7 million colors and has a typical contrast ratio of 1500:1. You cal also see that the panel uses a punch hole to house the front camera. From the images, it is also clear that the device uses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The camera setup on the iQOO U1 includes a 48MP primary camera and twin 2MP sensors for depth sensing and macro shots. Conspicuous by its absence is an ultra-wide-angle option, which we are sure many people will miss. At the front, the phone gets an 8MP camera for selfies and video calling. Moving on to the battery, the iQOO U1 gets a relatively large 4500mAh battery that also supports the company’s 18W dual-engine flash charge technology. As expected of a device launched in 2020, the iQOO U1 runs Android 10 at launch atop iQOO’s custom UI.
The phone comes in three color options and all three color options come in the three RAM/Storage variants as outlined earlier. Here are the launch prices for all three variants.
iQOO U1 (6GB+64GB): 1198 Yuan
iQOO U1 (6GB+128GB): 1398 Yuan
iQOO U1 (8GB+128GB): 1598 Yuan
